Painting Your Pet

This past month I had the privilege of painting pets with our customers. (And to be clear I mean painting an image OF the pets in question…not painting ON them, however much they may enjoy getting messy) I’m not exactly sure if the pets can appreciate their portraits but I can tell you that I certainly did. Everyone had their own unique spin and style to their paintings (which were of course painted with love.)
Now I can tell you that painting an animal has many challenges: fur texture, foreshortened features, neutral colours! etcetera. But my painters were not intimidated at all! Having the outline traced out in advance by me (using a projector) ensured that the proportions weren’t distorted, and made it a little bit like a “paint by numbers.” It certainly didn’t hurt that we were painting in a bar and had access to a little liquid creativity if desired.

Rooster Kitchen on Whyte Ave has been a regular host venue for us since I started Pub N Paint in September of 2021. Their support is what helped get this little local business off the ground! I also wouldn’t be hosting there if it weren’t the ideal location for a Pub N Paint. They have $5 mimosas in every flavour imaginable, excellent burgers, salads, brisket, appetizers, local craft beer, and more. I always get the Rooster Salad with smoked salmon and a guava mimosa when I’m teaching.

Now enough about food and more about the results! Below are some images from the Paint Your Pet event we hosted so you can see for yourself how enjoyable and beginner friendly the classes can be!
